Tim applies for jobs
on the hints he sniffed all the way
You re searching a job, you don t want to waste 3 days to go through all the books rightly written on this purpose, so here a sum-up of the hints that have been gathered so far and that could give you some interest in reading presentations, and books, or better apply for jobs directly.
First, keep trust in yourself, yes it happens more than often, a "no" will come, or worst no answer at all. is it a reason to doubt? NO, doubt is self destructing. so analyse the situation, it might be due to you, it might be due to the recruiter, who knows you might not perfectly fit his bill, no more. nothing to have excess in trust though. it s coming back to reality, keep the plus, assess and interpret the minus.
So, a story of plus and minus. unfortunately not. otherwise it would be easy to understand it. some key points at this stage, taylor your CV. yes there are jobs out there, don t mine yourself thinking the contrary, you cannot think the opposite. so your CV, your key companies where you want to go, for a temp job or a permanent one, it s always the same and a very good exercise every time you ve got to carry it out. No I am not leaving in a bubble, or a bubble lost in a lot of other bubbles. It is how it happens down there.
So, whatever the position you re looking for, one thing to remember: you are here to appetize the recruiter, to sell yourself through interesting points, or even more. and no don t start by doubting your abilities. sure there are some characteristics that could be improved, and surely enough there are as well some characteristics YOU HAVE. emphasis. personnalize the covering letter, one of the only thing internet made good is that you can get access to a lot of information, a lot of characteristics about who your sector is searching. list their key points, list how you are matching the important ones.
Keep it always interesting. A CV got to cover it all, the format is an essential part of it. the best advice i had was: put yourself in the shoes of the recruiter. no not with this pessimistic look you might have while searching, with the look of a guy who arrived at the office at 9, opening his letters, and looking onto them. yep looking, glaring very quickly in fact, 40 seconds, it is quick. so don t be afraid to be forward (ok not too much ;-) ), appetize him/her, develop your ideas, develop the future you re looking to, develop what you want to do and how both of you can achieve something good. ok, be realistic, it might not happen yet, but entering the sector is the most important! after it is a business of time.
Ok At last but not least, I don t want to outweigh the power of networking, but I am not an RJ45 ethernet connector. I prefer leaving natural making it happened and not forcing it. Even there, you know them, yes search, and contact them. no not sending a CV. calling to get more information is a more informal and efficient way. Who says it should be quick? No, it should only be optimistic. might not happen yet, but making the move forward and not backwards surely helps.
On that I am going back on writing.
